“Program Error: Connection #0 Is Busy”—When Trying to Launch or Open AccountMate
Those darned MS-Windows updates!
An issue with AccountMate/SQL versions up to V10 is that a Microsoft update to Windows released in early 2019 causes an error message when launching the AccountMate application. You really can’t blame AccountMate since the application worked fine with the then-current version of Windows, but you can FIX the issue.
The Symptom
When you launch AccountMate you get the first screenshot shown immediately below, which can REALLY have you scratching your head as the error message is behind the graphic and thus it isn’t even visible.
But if you’re able to close-one-eye, stick-your-tongue-out-of-the-corner-of-your-mouth, do a <right-click> on the error window in the back and then “move” the window, you’ll see “Connection #0 is busy,” as shown in the second screenshot below.
Yes, you could just hit the “I” key to ignore and the application will then continue to load, but with the <Disconnect User> function disabled so that’s not a good idea…
And, who wants to have to hit “I” every time—especially when you have to remember that as the error window isn’t visible unless you move it?
The Solution
To permanently fix the issue:
- <Right Click> your AccountMate shortcut on your desktop and select Properties.
- On the Compatibility tab, check the box for “Run this program in compatibility mode for:” and then select Windows 7 from the combo-box as shown below.
3. Hit OK at the bottom.
You’ll want to do this for your “regular” AccountMate shortcut, which points to amsql.exe. And if you use the AccountMate “administrator” program, amsqladm.exe, make the same edit to its shortcut.
