AccountMate Error—Error (1234): Subscript is outside defined range

“Error (1234)” When Logging in to AccountMate

The root of the issue is compatibility of AccountMate/SQL versions 10 and 11, which were released several years ago, with recent versions of Microsoft Office.

While upgrading to the latest AccountMate/SQL version will resolve the problem, that’s not a quick solution… Fortunately, there’s an expeditious alternative!

The Symptom

Immediately after logging in to AccountMate, you receive several error screens with only <OK> buttons. While clicking through them will eventually get you into the application, it sure is unneccesary and annoying!

Error (1234): Subscript is outside defined range.

Error (11): Function argument value, type, or count is invalid.

Check out the example screenshots below.

The Solution

On a good day, simply uninstalling the reinstalling Microsoft Office will resolve the issue. But if you’re a little bit geek and want an even FASTER solution, then there’s registry edits to quickly resolve this.

0. Always a good idea to back up your Windows Registry before making changes, so in the Registry Editor program, please hit <File><Export>, enter a file name and select an Export Range of “All” at the bottom of the screen so you have a COMPLETE backup.

1. Find the hex codes for the following three entries in Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ and write them down

  • Outlook.Application\CLSID
  • Excel.Application\CLSID
  • Word.Application\CLSID

Check out the screenshot below where we’ve highlighted an example value you’ll need to note for each but, again, this will be different on your workstation.

2. Find each of the three hex codes in Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID

3. Expand them and delete all entries EXCEPT InprocServer32

If you’re not comfortable backing up and editing the registry, please consult with your local IT support or, as always, contact your friendly corn-fed midwestern AccountMate support at NexLAN!
