AccountMate Error—OLE error code 0x80040154

Error “OLE error code 0x80040154: Class not registered.” When Starting AccountMate

Another flavor of AccountMate client run-time files either not being accessible or needing to be reinstalled.

The Symptom

This error occurs right as the application starts, before you even get to the user login screen:

OLE error code 0x80040154: Class not registered. Class containing OLE object is being ignored. Record number X.

Check out the example screenshot below.

The Solutions

==> Activate Microsoft Windows

This error will occur if your Microsoft Windows isn’t activated/licensed, so it’s effectively running in demo mode. Instructions to Activate Windows are on the Microsoft website here and require you have a genuine license for the product.

==> Disable Windows User Account Control

Issue could be Windows security not allowing the runtime files to be installed and make the required updates. Here’s the steps to correct:

  1. Install the latest Windows updates
  2. Disable windows User Account Control by opening the Start Menu and searching for UAC. Select “Change User Account Control settings” and then set the slider to “Never notify”
  3. Reboot the machine. Do not skip this step!
  4. Log in as a Windows administrator
  5. Reinstall the AccountMate runtime files per here.

Flexible Documentation

At a manufacturer of test equipment for the paper industry, workers sometime lost or forgot to include the requisite “Certificate of Analysis” when shipping the product.

We wrote an input screen for entering the requisite data, and customized their system to print the correct certificate when each serialized product is shipped.
