Dear AccountMate Clients;
If you are on an active AccountMate maintenance plan, either LifeCycle or Standard Maintenance, you will occasionally receive product updates in the mail directly from AccountMate. What should you do when a CD arrives? Can you just pop it in your server and run the update on your own? Do you need to keep it?
Upgrading AccountMate to the latest build or version is a complex process, not only because of the complexity of the software, but also because of the mission-critical financial data that it contains. Each AccountMate update contains new features, enhancements, and bug fixes. When upgrading, your current system, including any modifications, must be handled carefully.
The upgrade process includes three steps:
- First, we take a snapshot of your system and perform a test upgrade. We check for data inconsistencies, roll forward any modifications, and essentially get a “dry run” moving to the newer build or version.
- Second, we provide the upgraded snapshot to you for testing and review.
- Finally, we find a time (frequently after-hours) to upgrade your live system, leveraging the work that was done during step one.
Because the upgrade process is more than just “popping in the CD,” we generally recommend upgrading every other build, unless there is a major bug fix released that is vital to your system. When you get a CD in the mail from AccountMate, put the CD in a very safe place and check out our latest NewsLine. (If you miss an issue, you can browse our NewsLine archives.)
Then give us a call. We’ll discuss if it’s the right time for you to upgrade, taking both your schedule and your budget into consideration. We’ll work together to come up with a plan that is as custom-fit to your business as your accounting software!

AccountMate 6.5 for SQL – Build 608 Shipped
Earlier this month, AccountMate shipped MS 608a, the final build of AccountMate 6.5 for SQL. What should you do with the CD? Keep it in a very safe place!
As you know, AccountMate has released a new version, AccountMate 7.1 for SQL, and we have been running it in-house for nearly two months. There are a staggering number of new features and enhancements – ask us if you need a list – and we are already seeing many benefits of the new version in-house.
However, we’re still working through the system, identifying new processes, new procedures, and potential issues. We do not plan to upgrade any client to AccountMate 7.1 for SQL. Instead, we are shooting for moving clients currently on AccountMate 6.5 for SQL to the next build (7.2) which is expected to be released by the end of the calendar year.

Upcoming Regional AccountMate Gathering
On October 12, top AccountMate executives will gather with dozens of Business Partners in Chicago for a Regional Roundtable Gathering. Chicago is the second stop on AccountMate’s cross-country tour to exchange ideas with Business Partners, gather feedback, and announce product developments.
NexLAN will once again be in attendance. We have always found these gatherings to be an excellent opportunity to help shape the future of AccountMate while learning from the experiences of other Business Partners.
