Dear AccountMate Clients:

If you’ve been through NexLAN’s AccountMate product training in the past few years, then you probably recall me joking about how great the new system is going to be with it’s multi-document-interface ability (geek speak for multiple transactional windows open at once) just as soon as I convince management to get everyone 40″ plasma display monitors! You probably won’t be surprised to learn that I’ve never actually been able to convince any of our clients to put 40″ plasma displays on every desk, but that’s getting close to possible now.

I bought my first large LCD monitor eight years ago; it was definitely pricey at the time but worth it. Two years ago I took another expensive step up to a 20″ widescreen with 1680×1050 pixels. Then, just last month, since my video card is dual-monitor capable, I added a second identical monitor and am now basking in the glow of a desktop that’s almost 36″ diagonal viewing area with a resolution of 3360×1050 pixels.  Wow – Talk about being able to multi-task!!!

I realize that not all desktops have dual-monitor ability, but the experience reminded me of the productivity gains of being able to easily work in multiple applications at once without having to switch between which program you’re viewing at the time – and I’m really surprised at how inexpensive the upper end monitors are these days.

So, what’s the cost for a pretty big gain in productivity?  Dell is currently offering brand new 20″ LCD monitors with 1680×1050 resolution for $219.00 and they’re compatible with all the video cards made in the last 10 years.  Yup, just barely over $200 for some serious screen real estate. I challenge anyone to come from a 17″ monitor and not immediately start working comfortably with multiple windows open at once.

What does that mean for your staff?  Customer Service can easily have their e-mail or CRM open and visible at the same time as their order-entry and inventory maintenance screens; or your CFO can view a Crystal Report side-by-side with the screens that generated the transaction; or your Purchasing Agent can entering a PO while their web browser sits beside AccountMate.

Especially if you have monitors that are a few years old, then the time to step up is now!

Regards,

General Ledger Listing Transaction Types

The General Ledger Listing is one of the most useful tools available for verifying your account balances. To make the most out of this report, it is essential to understand the transaction type codes that form part of the Description. Each code corresponds to a specific type of AccountMate transaction and, when used together with the transaction number, provides the information you need to trace the source of a journal entry. This week we revisit a Technical Note that lists and defines these transaction type codes. This TechNote contains a link to a downloadable PDF version of the article.

Releasing Blanket Sales and Purchase Orders

Users can release orders from an open blanket sales order or purchase order through the Valid Until date assigned to the record. But what happens to the blanket order record if it has unreleased quantities past the defined expiration date? Can a user still amend it? What effect, if any, does closing the period have on the blanket order record? This week we revisit an article that discusses how the system handles an expired blanket sales or purchase order that has unreleased quantities. This TechNote contains a link to a downloadable PDF version of the article.
