Dear AccountMate Clients,
A few years ago, I was chatting with one of our clients who is highly seasonal – and they were lamenting how they have to ramp up employee head count for a handful of months with the consequent challenges of getting people trained in their products and services, using a staffing company or wrestling with high unemployment insurance rates, plus just general overhead of available office space and myriad other considerations.
My question was, “Well, what are all those extra bodies doing during your busy season?” When the reply was that they were keying in orders from their websites and pulling orders from the warehouse, I said, “We can definitely improve that!”
The first step was to automatically import the web orders from numerous sites, including Amazon. Then the second was to implement a warehouse management system, so personnel could pick, proof and ship orders all from a wireless handheld scanner.
Net result is that now, a couple years later, rather than literally double the headcount it increases by only 20% – which isn’t bad since sales are up 25%. Oh yeah, and profit is up hundreds of percent because the overhead was already.
Everyone knows the moral of the story is that technology is a huge lever for improving your business, but sometimes clients are confused about where to start that process.
If you’re a seasonal business, then the place to start is where those additional people are being used – because there’s so much extra “friction” in the business at that point the results are magnified.

Don’t forget that if your company has the Lifecycle Plan for your AccountMate, it now includes one seat per year. Since AccountMate added this benefit, attendance is up. So there’s an additional class scheduled for February 15-17 – which is a great time to be in the North San Francisco Bay area!
This is three days of classroom training for first-time AccountMate users and existing users. See the course description here.
